Powerful Blast Kills Two, Wounds 54 In Philippines, Muslim Militants Suspected

Nothing to do with Islam…

MANILA, Philippines – A powerful explosion killed at least two people and wounded 54 others in a southern Philippine port city that has been hit by similar blasts blamed on Muslim militants, police said Saturday.

The blast occurred at a bar across the street from a busy bus terminal in Zamboanga city, damaged nearby establishments and hitting the victims with flying glass and debris. One officer was among the wounded, police said.

Police suspected the militant Abu Sayyaf group, which operates in Zamboanga and nearby provinces, saying the attack could have been in retaliation for the foiled prison escape of a brother of one of the group’s leaders.

Earlier this week, army special forces killed at least three Abu Sayyaf gunmen in running gunbattles and have continued to pursue the militants in nearby Basilan province. The group has previously set off bombs to divert attention from military operations.

Regional police chief Edwin Basbas said investigators were looking for three men who were seen in the vicinity shortly before the blast.

Zamboanga police information officer Alex Mabalot said the blast killed a motorcycle taxi driver and another man who succumbed to his wounds. Only 10 people remained in hospitals, he said.

The bar and the bus terminal had been separately hit several years ago by bomb blasts blamed on the Abu Sayyaf. At least two suspected militants were arrested in another bomb attack near a police station last month, he said.

The Abu Sayyaf numbers about 300 fighters and remains a major security threat in the country's south despite U.S.-backed Philippine military offensives.

If other American media were to cover the story, they'd build the story around worries of a backlash against the Religion of Peace. Jimmy Carter would pipe up to call Israeli settlements the root cause.

Illegal Immigrant Free on Bond Allegedly Murders Store Clerk

Thank you, Obama

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office

by Warner Todd Huston23 Jan 2015Mesa, AZ 52

An illegal immigrant—who video surveillance reportedly shows calmly murdering a young store clerk in order to steal a box of cigarettes—was already out on bond from U.S. Immigration services and even had a previous conviction from which he had received no jail time.Police captured Apolinar Altamirano, 29, late last week in West Valley after a brief chase with Mesa police and Arizona Department of Public Safety officers, local Mesa’s CBS affiliate reported on January 22.

Altamirano was being sought for the murder of Grant Ronnebeck, 21, a clerk at a local convenience store. Police arrested the illegal (future Democratic voter) immigrant after seeing surveillance video that reportedly showed Altamirano shooting the clerk then calmly stepping behind the store counter and grabbing several packs of cigarettes before leaving the store.

[ If only law abiding Arizonans were disarmed, liberals think. ]

This isn’t the first time the illegal immigrant has been in trouble with police.

KPHO reported that Altamirano “had been cited for trespassing at the same store Jan. 9 and was served with an injunction for harassment Jan. 19.”

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office said that before the murder, Altamirano was already out on bond while U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement were attempting to determine whether he should be deported.

Altamirano also has a past conviction on his record. In 2012, Altamirano was convicted on a charge of burglary but had been released on probation with no jail time.

The victim’s employer released a statement on Thursday.

As you are aware, law enforcement is still conducting their investigation. QuikTrip is absolutely devastated and heart broken by this tragic loss. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with our employee’s family.

A Maricopa County Superior Court judge set bail at $1 million for the accused murderer. The suspect was being held, awaiting this next appearance in court scheduled for January 29.
