Assuming that summation is accurate, that paper wasn't even wrong. 1971 was pre-EPA. Exploring what could happen if aerosols increased by 6 or more fold was a rational thing to do. Because it was getting pretty bad back then. I was living on the Texas Gulf coast in the middle of what is still the world's largest collection of refineries. There were lots of times when you had to drive with your lights on during the day. Flying out of Houston you could see a bronze dome of pollution over the city. Satellite photos showed hazy areas over the larger cities with jet contrails connecting them. So yeah, if we had continued on that path, we would have experienced pronounced cooling. That is, until the CO2 levels got high enough.
