This isn't "capitalism", IMO.

Sure, the financial rules allow companies to be mismanaged and then leave behind investors and creditors in a bankruptcy but that's NOT the basis for capitalism. It would be nice to see more judges throw the book at companies who SCAM the people and businesses who were supplying them. Shareholders were supplying the company with liquidity and they ended up getting the shaft, due to a scamming management who are using the bankruptcy laws to scam those who were in business with them. It's immoral but it doesn't appear to be illegal in this case.

Given the nature of the commentary coming out of the company even in the last quarterly report before declaring bankruptcy, disclaimers they included not withstanding, it's pretty clear that this was a scam that GT's management implemented. Unfortunately there's not much that can be done after the fact. However, it's also clear that management can hide behind the "we were honestly surprised to find ourselves in this situation" defense....and there's nothing we can do about it.

Unless more laws are changed, then there will be plenty of unethical scammers out there. Once again, capitalism is a fertile ground for shams and scammers but I don't think it's right to blame the system.

I reserve the right to be wrong on this one.....
