I totally disagree with : "The main reason to keep an old computer is to run software that isn't compatible or licensed for a new system."

Instead I suggest that retention of an older PC is completely dependent on its use and parts availability.

If you find your PC meets your needs and are not a gamer then only parts failure of an essential item which is either too expensive to replace or not available all ... would be reason for replacement.
