My Kaiser doc said that they are being closely watched not only by Kaiser but by the Feds to see how much they prescribe. Anything above the normal or suggested amount brings about a review.

Many years ago I spent a month in intensive care and in a lot of pain. I was on 100 units of demerol (max allowed and enough to put a horse down) every 3 hours around the clock for 3 weeks, then on 1 grain codeine tablets for a month. When I stopped I had no addition symptoms at all.
