Sam, I'm NOT defending the Germans!!!!! I'm saying that there is no altruism in finance. We do we do - companies do what they do - Countries do what they do - because it is in their own best interest. Germany may be pricks, but so what. They are the ones with the money. You want their money you have to play by their rules or go home.

And one more thing Sam. The countries people determines how this all plays out. Merkel can't do what might be the right thing because if she does she is gone. Same thing in Greece. The election went the way it did because the winner told the people of Greece that he would end austerity, stay in the Euro and return to the social security nets of earlier days. Well let's see if he can do that. I'm guessing NOT. .........And this is the part that Krugman just doesn't get; economics is also a political game. All the good theory in the world is useless unless you have the support of the people and politicians. It's called...............pragmatism.
