Anne:

I am familiar with some aspects of water in open pit mines, and it is containable using a variety of techniques provided that the flow in a localized area does not exceed the capacity of the damming effect and the ability to pump water out of a lower sump than where the mining is taking place. The longevity of a mine at Franklin Lake could span many decades so that digging out the whole playa at once would not occur, but mining in a localized area would occur then reclamation in that area and on to the next one. Taking out just the top ten feet could possibly be a very successful mine.

Samples have been taken at shallower depth, and if the theory of a homogenous playa proves true then the values at the surface could be the same as those deeper down.

California and Nevada are about as mining friendly as any states can get in the U.S. Some of Franklin Lake is California State land ( less than 10%) that would get a royalty on mining. The playa has nominal vegetation, and wildlife is scarce. Humans don't use it for anything so that it is questionable about any severe environmental impact. The majority of the water evaporates out the top of the playa and there has been mining there before (Borax). Naxos has done environmental work and we have an environmental consultant that has done some good work. All in all there are quite a few positives to developing a mine at Franklin Lake.

Regards,

Kim W.
