Corel is one of serveral companies flying blind when it comes to developing in Java. The primary problem is a lack of design and management talent and it's primarily due to the toy-like designs of DOS and Windows software. It's almost like expecting engineers designing tube radios in the 50's to suddenly switch gears and develop systems based on integrated circuits. Internally, it really is that dramatic but externally it looks more like the same old radio. Unfortunately Corel didn't understand that and they don't understand it now. They are truly an ignorant bunch, technologically speaking. Watch what IBM's eSuite does next quarter and you will get a better feel for where Java is headed. Intel had been working on high-performance Java multi-media tools, too.
