>> Inode, I'm amazed at how the "non-partisan" CBO has become a blatantly partisan tool.

One of the positive changes the Republicans have made or are making is that CBO will be required to include dynamics in the forecasts. So, if they are projecting tax cuts, the stimulative effect, if any, must be reflected. As will things like the inability of Medicaid beneficiaries to find doctors (and thus end up back in the ER anyway). I think that's a good change for the CBO.

But they ought to be given the prerogative to point out fundamental accounting inconsistencies. As an accountant, there are basic principles that one cannot "disclaim" his way out of. For example, if you do a forecast that pushes all the good stuff into the first few years and all the bad stuff to the out years, you can't just disclose it and be okay. You're simply not allowed to do it. Even in the most relaxed arrangements with clients you have a responsibility to the public.

And it really didn't "look good" when Obama called Elmendorf over for a "little chat" without any real explanation. WTF business would Obama have had with him?
