Carroll Quigley, Bill Clinton's mentor on globalization, wrote this book, which is a hard read:

carrollquigley.net

Read chapter 12 (starting page 227) if you can endure. Two factions of the British elite, the Chamberlain group and the Milner group, encouraged Hitler's aggression. They told him it was OK to take Austria, Czechoslovakia, Poland on his way to destroying USSR.

I wonder whether Churchill himself had been converted by the end of the war to recognize USSR as a greater threat than Germany. I recently saw a documentary on Rommel in which he had envisioned deposing Hitler and uniting with UK and USA to fight USSR.

The plots and sub plots are quite spectacular, will all the facts ever
be known?

Remember here in the 50's we went after the Commies, so one can
understand his thinking.

The only constant among it all was the anti-semitism and that still
exists.
