Then where oh where are all the alleged short squeezes.

Theoretically, my premise is wrong. But in practice, the MMs just don't
let it happen as you describe. Shorting 90% or more of the float? Don't think so. We just hear crap like that and then we and everyone else believes it.. I think it's called self fulfilling prophecy. Works until everyone realizes that...it's not working.
