According to the S.C. Video Poker Gaming Machine Quarterly ending 9/30/97 there were 21647 machines in 5262 locations. It does not list by Co. but does list by city.

Another data point: The purchase price of a new VGM is $5-7K (a bit more
than I had imagined -- I was thinking ~ $4K.) The capital cost of
placing a machine in a VGM room is $1-2K.

A net effect of pending VGM legislation in S.C., should the 20% tax
in lieu of license fee pass, would be to extend the time required to
recover the initial investment in a new machine from the current
6-8 months to more like 8-18 months.
