I have the MacBook Pro, an iPhone6 Plus and an iPad. No, OS X is not at all like iOS. You can do whatever you need to do on OS X. It would be a fairly esoteric Windows application that isn't also available on OS X.

iOS is an entirely different animal. But the Apple Apps reign supreme on the phones and tablets, so that's OK with me. Unlike Microsoft, Apple realizes that the mobile OS and the computer OS serve different functions, need to be different and should not be merged.

I have used Windows since the beginning in the mid-80's (Intel retiree). My only complaint about the MacBook Pro and OS X is, "Why didn't I make the change a few years ago?"
