As you can see this is a complicated topic that can be affected by many variables, each of which can be material and all of which combined can literally make the figures mean anything the author might want them to.

"So that we're on the same page", I believe CA, IL, NY, and a couple other liberal states are among the biggest, most outrageous takers out of the 50 states. But I have a decent understanding of economics and finance.



What you have is a lot of questions you claim as understanding. Look, I am not begrudging these states for needing federal assistance...but it bears interest to know that the states from which the loudest complaining about "subsidies" emanates are the neediest, for a variety of reasons. chief among which is likely to be poverty.
