Stephen, if you pick up the most recent issue of " Business Week" you'll find a nice response from Andy Grove on the challenges Intel faces over the coming year, in particular the sub $1000 PC and margin pressures. Will an increase in sales on the low end compensate? My personal opinion is that this is a fad and will not grow to 33%. Make no mistake about, however, there is real risk here. My gut feeling tells me that Intel will come through in the latter half of 98. Pricing pressures will diminish in the second half of 98 and I think we will see a return to some more explosive growth.
The semiconductors are so volatile on the upside and downside, I wonder why everyone is so flipped out over this steep correction? Isn't a 50% correction about right before the uptrend resumes? It's happened before?

stephen,

What do you want Andy to say? If the earnings are in line with expectations (flat or slightly up) why should he repeat himself?

He may not know himself. There are 2 weeks left, and enough can happen to move earnings plus minus a nickel or more.

If he gives a false hope, he may be inviting class action law suits.
