US crude inventories rise by 7.7M barrels, more than expected

Inventories of U.S. commercial crude oil rose more than expected last week, according to data from the Energy Information Administration. U.S. oil stockpiles increased by 7.7 million barrels in the week ended Feb. 13.

Analysts polled by Reuters were expecting inventories to rise by 3.1 million barrels, though EIA's figure came in below data from the American Petroleum Institute released on Wednesday that showed a build of 14.3 million barrels.

Brent crude oil prices earlier slipped below $59 a barrel and WTI broke below $50 on the API data. A possible rise in Saudi output also stoked worries about oversupply.
