My two cents: you're absolutely right that technical analysis and fundamental values are out the window for the moment. The reason is clear. If you have made profits elsewhere, you can recoup, say, 40% of your loss today by selling. That "tax gain" is substantial and instantaneous. That's why normal factors are thrown out the window in these situations at year end.
