actually, Mr. Lamb, the pipeline in Alaska is under repair due to bacterial/chemical breakdown inside the pipeline; bacteria which is found naturally in oil deposits - when the oil first comes up from the ground it picks up bacteria which is strong enough over time to eat through metal. from my understanding, having toured the Valdez facilities, climatic changes don't affect the line as much as corrosion from within the line relative to bacterial content. call Valdez terminal if you want the full skinny.
