I agree. 98 will definitely be interesting. I have followed all the networking companies quite closely, especially the hardware, software execution and management styles.

Cisco has the upper hand by taking the high ground where the margins are biggest. Now they are moving down the mountain to broaden their product mix and provide true end to end solutions.

Having been to their product seminars up here in the Seattle area and talked to their engineers and salespeople I have an even higher respect for their business plan.

When I invested in them years ago I could only hope they could execute so well as they are today.

Don't get me wrong, I look for reasons to sell or keep my investments every day. Cisco has for the last six or seven years convinced me that they are the leaders. Chambers is doing a dam good job!

I agree that Ascend has been knocked down probably too far but the slope is pretty steep in this business. After talking to the Cisco people I realized that they were going to take on Ascend with all guns firing. We will not know the answer for at least a year and a half IMO.

It will be an interesting battle, I think I know who will win.

Regards

Eric
