Then-Minister of Defense Abdel Fattah el-Sisi led the military removal of Morsi. El-Sisi became the president a year later, something that is considered undemocratic by some in the Obama administration although he won the leadership post through an election. Egypt has refused to join the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Instead, the most populous Arab nation has asked the Obama administration for more weapons to fight the jihadist group. “The Egyptian military, in particular, is very frustrated with us,” an unnamed Obama administration official told The Daily Beast. “It is mutual frustration.” The tensions between the two nations have escalated in the last 18 months after the Obama administration suspended the sale of certain weapons to Cairo in the wake of the Muslim Brotherhood leaders removal from the presidential office in Egypt. In response, Egypt has reached out to China and Russia for weapons. “We still believe that Egypt is an important strategic partner in the region…we also recognize that we have some common interest with Egypt with respect to terrorism, regional stability and including peace with Israel. Obama Undid the Camp David Accords February 19, 2015 by Daniel Greenfield And by that I don’t mean the agreement between Israel and Egypt, which is about where it was before Obama tried to mess up Egypt, but the alignment between Egypt and the United States. Bringing Egypt into the Western orbit had been a major objective of American foreign policy throughout the Cold War. Eisenhower had badly botched the attempt by stabbing England in the back. When it did happen, it was considered one of the few rare foreign policy achievements in a region where the US hasn’t had a great track record. That’s what Obama undid with his Cairo speech and endorsement of Muslim Brotherhood terror. These days Egypt gets Russian nukes and French planes. It’s not a coincidence that those agreements were announced after Obama decided to host Muslim Brotherhood thugs in a high profile State Department event. State is refusing to endorse Egypt’s air strikes against the Islamic State in Libya. Meanwhile it continues working for the overthrow of Egypt’s government making the breach complete.
