John,

Re: "AMD made big sacrifices of profits in '97 but '98 is the first payoff year."

So John, do you see AMD turning in a positive profit for Q1'98 ?? ... I
think that the $1.27 for '98 is too "rosy". AMD won't turn a positive
profit until 2nd half and they will be lucky to come close to $1.00 for '98.

Re: "Probably not quite in desktop CPU's, probably yes in
Notebook CPU's ..."

The notebook market is "brand new" for AMD ... I don't expect them to
offer anything close to Intel's notebook CPU performance. AMD will
continue to be 2 speed bins behind in notebooks. AMD's .25um process
just is NOT as aggressive as Intel's in terms of performance.

Make It So,
Yousef

John: Thanks for the response on AMD. You made a lot of good points about AMD. As an Intel investor I take AMD seriously. It seems in the computer Hardware sector intense competition leads to a loss for everyone, and it seems Intel and AMD are at the beginning of a price cutting phase. DRAM and Hard Drive companies are in a high demand, but unprofitable business. I hope microprocessors don't suffer the same fate. Dale
