ABAXIS Announces Resignation of Frank Maguire, Vice President of Operations BusinessWire, Wednesday, December 24, 1997 at 09:18 SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 24, 1997--ABAXIS Inc. (NASDAQ:ABAX), a medical products company manufacturing point-of-care blood analysis systems, Wednesday announced the resignation of Frank Maguire as vice president of operations. Maguire had recently joined ABAXIS on Nov. 7, 1997. Clint Severson, president and chief executive officer, commented: "We regret Frank Maguire will be leaving us so soon, but family considerations have precluded a permanent relocation to California. Frank has contributed to our operations during the past 45 days, and we wish him well. "The interim eight-person team, led by myself, and including senior representatives from Production, Manufacturing, Engineering, Materials, Quality Control, Process Development and Finance, which was formed in early October, remains intact. "The team will continue its oversight of day-to-day manufacturing operations and continue to focus on optimizing our manufacturing processes while ABAXIS resumes its search for an appropriate candidate whose expertise can see us through the challenges we will face during our expansion over the next 12 months and beyond." Founded in 1989, ABAXIS develops, manufactures and markets portable blood analysis systems for use in any patient care setting to provide clinicians with rapid blood constituent measurements. The system consists of a compact, 6.9 kilogram, portable analyzer and a series of 8 cm diameter single-use plastic disks, called reagent discs, which contain all the reagents necessary to perform a fixed menu of tests. The system can be operated with minimal training and perform multiple routine tests on whole blood using either venous or fingerstick samples. The system provides test results in less than 15 minutes with the precision and accuracy equivalent to a clinical laboratory.
