I believe there is some price protection for volume buyers, which may be for up to 30 days. With this, you can sell the chips your bought in December for $400 at January price (plus mark-up) assuming you will cash in you price protection after price drop is official.

These are not Intel's distributors.

The main distributors are Wyle, Arrow, Anthem, Zeus, Pioneer, Alliance, etc.

The Chip Merchant deals in onesy-twosey "after market' CPUs.

Call them up and order 20,000 or 30,000 and you'll get the picture.
