Anyone holding a gun, or any deadly weapon, in a threatening manner on another individual is automatically open season for anyone else with a gun to take him down... the rule is if you point a loaded gun, then you better take careful aim and fire immediately... only in the movies will you hear "Drop the gun" certainly not in real life, definitely not if the perp is already holding it on someone... you take aim and fire, a rapid double tap to stun him, and then keep shooting until the perp hits the floor, never allow the perp to return fire, you take him down and it looks like that pharmacist did exactly that...

The police would command a perp to drop the gun before firing, but not if the perp is about to fire...

Also, here's a very helpful tip, if/when you do have to shoot a perp in that situation, it's always good to shout out the word "police" in a loud voice a micro instant before you fire as if you were the police... that would identify you as a non perp to everyone around you but you're still not saying you're the police, who's to say you weren't just calling for the police when shouting police, and it saves you from being identified as another perp...
