A most despicable attack on culture, but there's nothing new here, these shoddy ignorant fundamentalist play actors (like greg & brummy) have been at it for centuries now for a 1000yrs.Its pure medievalism that's been preserved so well as we see, for was always based in fundamentalist childish superstition & controlling by fear. Far easier to hold onto than searching for real answers & clinging to rote dogmas that dictate obedience. In other words, books represent a people's culture, history, and pride, and provide militants a concrete way to attempt to wipe clean a region's identity.

Islam once had a golden age until they started burning books 900yrs ago of the empiricist philosophers that were trying to follow in the footsteps of the Greeks. One of the most famous known even inn Europe was Averroes for his preserving Greek thought & rational inquiry , then iron mullahs clamped down: “Nine hundred years ago, the books of the Arab philosopher Averroes were collected before his eyes ... and burned. One of his students started crying while witnessing the burning. Averroes told him ... the ideas have wings... but I cry today over our situation."
