Respond to of 34328 I love to read. Always did. If it is true, I want to read it. Novels, nada. A good thing for a guy with no guidance to apply himself in school. I wish I was one of those that could say this teacher stepped in and ....... but the fact is after testing in the top (embarrassing)% in the nation on achievement tests in ninth grade, Ds were passing grades, and enough for me. There is a song somewhere called "A wasted life". I don't blame my parents. They knew no different. They gave me as much guidance as they got growing up. By the time I had kids, I knew different. That is why I out argued the wife into staying home with them until they reached school age. Made sure they graduated college (a family first) debt free. Made them read The Richest Man in Babylon when they were young. Made them read the introduction and first few chapters of The Single Best Investment. Made them both start Roths, and shared what financial literacy I have. So from feeling frustrated at times on what could have been, I've gone to feeling that maybe I've broken a chain. Somewhere in there lies my need to always be competitive. We have a little fun competition with the Word Power from the Readers Digest. Pretty rare that I lose to either of those college educated brats. Masters? ha! People say, "retired, what do you do all day in the winter"? Well, this week I read a book on our takeover of the Philippines from Spain. Last week, a book viewing the Yukon gold rush through the eyes of six diverse people who lived it..... By that time their eyes are usually glazed over. Now I need to plan for my own demise? sheesh
