IN WWII, we did the EXACT SAME THING. You don't think GM was making CARS, do you? Prior to the war, as is alluded to in your post, they were PRIVATELY run, under Fascism. So, again, you're WRONG.

Just like in every other country in the war, including ours, government requirements took priority. Still, they placed orders and then paid. That isn't nationalization by any stretch of imagination.
