Porphyries are several different animals. But avg copper gold grade
is .3 grams gold and .4% copper. That is about 11 dollar US rock.

They are dependent on cheap power. Thats is why lower grade of copper can be mined in BC than anywhere else in the world. Power and infrastructure.

Hardness of rock and mineral species is imporant.

If oxide then SX-EW, which is cheap in capital cost and fast in recovery can be used.

If the rock is soft then little dynamite and mostly ripping can be used. Also the milling is easy.

If the rock is hard then pit walls can be steep. It's a trade off.

If rail is nearby or sea then its easy to transport concentrates if its sulfides. It helps to have a port.

If its full milling and low grade then capital cost goes up and so must tonnage.
