Tokyo Bay Bridge/Tunnel Linking Kanagawa, Chiba Opens Thursday

TOKYO (Nikkei)-A 15.1 kilometer bridge/tunnel route across Tokyo Bay, linking Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture with Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture, was opened at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako attended a ceremony marking completion of the eight-year project, which cost 1.44 trillion yen.

The Tokyowan Aqua Line includes a 9.4km undersea tunnel on the Kanagawa side and a 4.4km bridge close to Kisarazu, linked on a small artificial island in the bay.

The one-way toll will be 4,000 yen for standard automobiles for five years, increasing to 4,900 yen in the sixth year.

And you thought the tolls over the Bay bridge were high.
