Obama jokes about Clinton email, knocks Republicans at dinner

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama took aim at his Republican opponents and his gaffe-prone vice president on Saturday in a satirical speech that included a roast of his former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over her recent problems with email.

Obama joined Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, a potential Republican contender for the 2016 presidential election, and Democratic Governor Terry McAuliffe of Virginia for the annual Gridiron dinner, an evening of song and skits making light of major players in U.S. politics.

Obama joked that his reputation for being a tech-savvy president had now been eclipsed by his one-time foe Clinton, who has come under fire for using a private email account for her work as the nation's top diplomat.

"If you think about how things have changed since 2008, back then I was the young tech-savvy candidate of the future. Now I'm yesterday's news and Hillary's got a server in her house!"

"I am so far behind," he said to laughter.

Walker also had some fun with Clinton's email controversy, tying her to wealthy Wall Street donors.

"I even have Hillary's private email," Walker said. "It goes right to her campaign headquarters. You know, it's hillaryclinton@wallstreet.com," he said.

Walker quipped that the joke was written by Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren, who is known for crusading against Wall Street, and who some Democrats hope will challenge Clinton.

Obama, feeling loose with less than two years left in office, noted criticism that he had taken a "selfie" photo in a viral video promoting his health insurance program, but he turned the tables on Republican senators who sent a letter to Iran warning them against a nuclear deal Obama hopes to secure.

"You don’t diminish your office by taking a selfie. You do it by sending a poorly written letter to Iran," Obama said.

Obama also ribbed Vice President Joe Biden for his touchy-feely habits. Biden drew criticism for massaging the shoulders of the wife of incoming Defense Secretary Ash Carter at his swearing-in ceremony.

"Joe rubs my shoulders, too," Obama said.

Obama jabbed Walker for dodging a question during a recent trip to London on whether he believed in evolution.

"I absolutely believe in the theory of evolution - when it comes to gay marriage," Obama said to laughter.

Obama came out in favor of gay marriage in 2012 after many years of what he described as a personal evolution in his thinking about the subject.

Mitt Romney: ‘Hell hath no fury like Obama scorned’
.................................................................................................

By David Sherfinski - The Washington Times - Wednesday, March 25, 2015
washingtontimes.com

Former Massachusetts Gov. and 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney weighed in on the ongoing tensions between the White House and Israel this week, saying on Fox News that “hell hath no fury like Obama scorned.”

“But I think it’s more than that,” Mr. Romney told host Neil Cavuto. “I think this really revolves not around a peace process with the Palestinians — there is no peace process right now with the Palestinians. No one’s thinking about a … government combined with Hamas being able to sit down and negotiate an agreement — that’s not going on.”

“What this is really about is Iran,” Mr. Romney continued. “And I think that the White House is trying to minimize Bibi Netanyahu and minimize Israel’s concerns at a time they want to push through their own agreement with Iran. And the sad thing is that President Obama and I didn’t agree about much during the 2012 campaign, but one thing we agreed on was the greatest threat to America was a nuclear Iran.”

Mr. Romney said Mr. Obama was trying to push through a deal on Iran’s nuclear program without involving regional partners or the U.S. Congress. He also said a concern is that the political upside of a deal for Mr. Obama, as well as for former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Rodham Clinton, is so great that “he’ll agree to anything.”

“I think that’s why Israel and Saudi Arabia … even Joe Lieberman — are all coming together and saying, wait a second. This is important. This is the security of America, and the world, and in some cases the existence of other nations,” he said.

Obama Lawyers Afraid to Go to Court on Email Scandal

.................................................................................
Judicial Watch ^ | 03-27-2015

The Obama administration’s fraud, misconduct and misrepresentation on the Hillary Clinton email scandal continues in federal court. Crafty, corrupt politicians realize that transparency and accountability go hand-in-hand. So that is why Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama (with the federal bureaucracies at their beck and call) have a personal and political interest in keeping their records away from the American people – even if it means violating the federal transparency law: the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Yemen And The Collapse of Obama’s Middle East Policy

He has left the U.S. with few military options and little influence over allies or regional actors.

NRO
By Tom Rogan
March 26, 2015

Excerpt:

‘Astounding.”

That was how ABC News’s Jon Karl reacted yesterday to Josh Earnest’s assertion that Yemen remains a model for counterterrorism.

In fact, Karl was so astounded that he asked Earnest to clarify.

The White House press secretary dutifully responded:

What the United States will do and has done is work to try to support the central government, build up the capacity of local fighters, and use our own technological and military capabilities to apply pressure on the extremists there.

There are a few problems with this strategy. First, Yemen’s “central government” no longer exists. Second, Yemen’s “local fighters” are divided between the Houthi rebels, al-Qaeda, and regional separatists. Third, with the CIA and Pentagon having evacuated Yemen, ground-level U.S. “military capabilities” are almost nonexistent.

Moreover, Yemen is now a regional war zone.

After all, a coalition of Sunni governments is now pursuing Operation “Storm of Resolve” (a title perhaps designed to repudiate President Obama’s “ steady resolve” strategy) to restore Yemen’s deposed president, Mansour Hadi.

To be sure, a movement of regional actors to check the Iranian-supported Houthi rebels seems positive. But there’s one problem. Beyond intelligence/logistics support, America isn’t directly involved. And that means the U.S. will have little influence over what the Sunni alliance actually does in Yemen.

And that leads to another problem.

*snip*

Yet, led by foreign-policy luminaries like Susan Rice, Ben Rhodes, and Valerie Jarrett (a.k.a. “the Oracle”), Obama is confident that his detachment is good strategy. Correspondingly, Earnest’s comments yesterday weren’t a symptom of political spin, but rather a signifier of immense, albeit genuine, delusion. The White House genuinely believes that Middle Eastern stability is best served by American hesitation.

Reality begs to disagree.
