It will be interesting to see if it gets built. The economics has always been the sticking point for solar powered satellites. There were seriously studied during the 1970s. To get the economics to work, mining the Moon was felt to be needed. Manufacturing would be done by a space colony at L5. Which, itself would be built with Moon materials. Realize that an SPS is going to be huge, kilometer scale.

Yeah, getting it built is a problem but once its built........yowser.

Cost wise.........I wonder how getting hit by space dust compares to the impact that air, wind and rain have on structures built on earth.
