The Labor Force Participation Rate is rapidly declining as the Baby Boom reaches older age and stop working (stops participating). This statistic is the percentage of those older than 16 who work. Very few 80 year olds work.
The Labor Force Participation Rate does not include people over 65 so aging populations have nothing to do with it. More people between 18 (not 16) and 65 have chosen not to work. Bucky Fuller is right, fewer people need to work to support those that choose not to work.
