>> They think they can get away with it because well-designed studies have shown little or no increase in unemployment when the minimum wage goes up.

No one who truly understands economics makes this claim. Even amongst economists -- at least half of whom understand economics -- between 75 and 90% (depending on the survey) agree that minimum wage costs jobs, and almost all of those would agree those jobs losses are worst among those who need them most.

I've shown you the research numerous times and you continue to repeat your bullshit. That starts to sound more like intransigence or lying than it does anything else. I think you're just like tejek -- so politically bound to the left that you cannot even consider actual knowledge on a subject. Which explains a lot.

>> Undoubtedly some because of the hike in minimum wage. But more are opening than closing so it isn't as dire as those few paragraphs seem to imply.

Okay, so you admit jobs are killed. Because it certainly isn't the minimum wage causing new ones to open.

You evidently have never run any kind of business; moreover, you evidently would have not the slightest idea how to do so. I don't think you could make it in a pizza parlor, let alone something more substantive.

CJ, why not just raise the minimum wage to $50/hour?

Now everyone makes over $100K/year. Think about how much "living" people can do on a wage like that. Think about how local businesses are going to enjoy the boost in revenues thanks to all of these new customers who now make six figures. Think about how much the gap between rich and poor will shrink.

No need to point out how this is a "slippery slope" fallacy, because the very definition of a "living wage" is a slippery slope.

As for Seattle, it's all too easy to just close up shop and reopen in nearby towns like Tacoma, Federal Way, or Edmonds. Come to think of it, I don't remember eating at a Korean restaurant in Seattle itself. No mom-n-pop can afford the labor costs unless they hire illegal immigrants.
