You call for a big surprise in sales for the quarter, right? OK, they need 20% or so Q-to-Q anyway to reach that magic billion dollars in 2000 figure. The 4th qtr is big for booksellers in general (last year, B&N did 36% of their revenue in the Nov-Jan qtr). 50% sales growth would be a disappointment IMO.

You note that insider selling is likely to subdue any runup, right? If sales growth beats expectations, would a true believer really sell? Doesn't the surprise tell you that the future is brighter than anticipated? Would the insiders be telling us "that's the last surprise"?

You predict a 25-50% run in the stock in anticipation of a "surprise" in sales, yet you suggest that insiders would sell into the rally. You are half right. Insiders will sell, but my money is on the run being in the other direction.
