America Online Inc. Wins Battle to Stop Advertiser From
Sending Junk E-Mail

Dulles, Virginia, Dec. 18 -- AOL said junk e-mailer Over the Air
Equipment Inc. has agreed to a court injunction to stop sending
unsolicited ads to AOL members.

Over the Air Equipment had been sending the No. 1 online service's
members ''hundreds of thousands" of e-mails daily that advertise
pornographic Web sites, AOL said.

The ad company agreed to pay America Online for damages, though
the online service declined to specify the amount. AOL will put
the money towards safety education for young people and their
parents. ''(Junk e-mailers) have little regard for the people who
receive their solicitations--a problem that's only magnified when
a child is on the receiving end of an objectionable piece of junk
e-mail," AOL Chairman and Chief Executive Steve Case in a statement.

Las Vegas-based Over the Air Equipment declined to comment. AOL
filed suit accusing Over the Air Equipment of using deceptive
practices in October. The junk e-mailer agreed to drop its
challenge to a preliminary injunction issued by the U.S. District
Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Dulles, Virginia-based AOL filed suit recently against Squeaky
Clean Marketing and Cyber Services, alleging that the Georgia-based
companies ignored AOL's requests to stop sending unsolicited junk
e-mail to its 10 million members.

You're right, this would all go away if Gates wasn't so damn tight. Just get on the horn and ask for Roy Rohmer, problem solved. regards
