My wife is a ceramic artist as well, we have a kiln and she sells her work at shows 3 or 4 times a year. We also travel and I have been to over 70 countries.

You seem to have a fixation with republicans and them making you do things you don't want to do. Republicans are only half the problem, I am against government (both sides) making more and more restrictions on what I can and can't do.

I don't think social security is a bad thing. It is necessary because many (maybe most) people, given the freedom, would spend their retirement savings rather than save it. The forced savings helps many people. There is some redistribution. I am not against that, we will need more of it.

As for the labor force, I think an ever increasing percent of jobs will be minimum wage. Not because of some nefarious plot of rich businessmen, but because more and more jobs can be automated. Not just low skilled, but medium and even high skilled workers compete with automation. When that happens wages are lowered.

Raising the minimum wage is the wrong way to solve the problem. The earned income tax credit should be greatly expanded.

I am not against people deciding not to work if they do something productive with their time. My concern is that many people turn to bad activities when they have too much time on their hands. I am sure that will send you through the roof.
