Robert, I'll proffer an opinion on this, if you don't mind.

While as you suggest, there will likely be dollars looking to be redeployed after the first of the year, I suspect until the extent of the tech slowdown /Asian concerns are more defined, through perhaps several quarters of earnings, but certainly at least through Jan., many funds will be selling into any technical rallies.

Where will they go? For one, I would guess some would continue getting back into drilling. I expect purer telecom plays will be hot throughout 98 as RBOCs and AT&T posture for dominance. And I've done great in CVC, and I think select cables will continue being attractive.

But with further tech concerns and potential preannouncements ahead, technology will be somewhat challenging shorter term.

Steve

Bob:

TXN acted well today. One robin does not a spring make, however, and I'd need to see three or four more days like today to believe we've bottomed @ $40. A lowball $2.50 earnings number for next year gives me a fair value of $43.

Happy holidays,

Charlie
