You tell the teller that you’d like to withdraw $5,000 from your account. She hesitates nervously and wants to know why.

This is the norm for $10K now, and has been for a while. Years ago, there was a form that had to be filled out, even at the drive-thru window. Now you have to go into the bank and be scrutinized and probably photographed.

Recently, I deposited $10K cash, and they would not take it at the drive-thru and gave me a 15 minute transaction inside the bank.

I joked "what would happen if I wanted to withdraw $10K. Would it take longer and have the FBI attending? They were not amused.

Ridiculous, and they blame it on drug money and trafficking. I doubt it. They just want to know about the hidden economy.
