Read Replies (3) | Respond to of 1574061 Jon Stewart body slammed Fox News hypocrisy during Thursday’s episode of The Daily Show. In specific, Stewart called out the conservative network for their skewed coverage of events in Ferguson as opposed to the faux-scandal of Benghazi. Stewart noted that in the wake of Officer Darren Wilson being cleared of all charges, Fox News was demanding apologies from everyone from President Obama to the general public for the “hands up, don’t shoot” rhetoric while completely ignoring the Department of Justice report showing wide spread racism within the Ferguson police department and judicial system. At the same time, Fox News has completely ignored countless reports clearing the Obama administration of any wrong-doing regarding Benghazi. Stewart pointed out that: The lesson Fox News is getting at is very clear. Wouldn’t it be nice if people who jumped to conclusions and peddled a false, divisive, anger-stoking narrative had to apologize for misleading America? Speaking to Fox News coverage of Benghazi, Stewart noted that: They demand accountability for anger and divisiveness whilst holding themselves entirely unaccountable for their anger and divisiveness,” he said. “For two years, they used Benghazi as shorthand, as a symbol for the whole concept of a corrupt, lying, tyrannical, possible murderous Obama White House, kind of like other people used ‘hands up, don’t shoot’ as a symbol for systemic racism, and there’s only really one difference between the two phenomenon: systemic racism actually exists. Or, as Stewart explains: The Department of Justice found that the flashpoint incident for protests did not happen the way some thought. Although, in the second report, they also document a tower of racially based kindling wood, years of unreasonable force lighter fluid, and daily tossed cigarette butts of discrimination and harassment that could easily lend itself to a flashpoint. While those angered by Darren Wilson shooting and killing Michael Brown had some valid basis for their reaction, the GOP-controlled House Intelligence Committee found all the allegations by the #Benghazi brigade to have no basis in fact whatsoever. Stewart goes through all the bogus #Benghazi accusations point by point: “Did Susan Rice go on TV and try to deceive anyone? Report says no. Did the administration ignore credible warnings about that day’s attack? Report says no. Was there a stand-down order or failure to rescue [the victims] and send rescue planes? Report says no. Was there a massive intelligence cover-up? Report says no — not CIA, not FBI, none of them.” That’s right: Fox “News” ran endless loops of terrifying footage of the Libyan embassy compound in flames and hammered in their baseless libels over and over again for over two years. But now that they’ve been discredited, we’ve seen neither hide nor hair of anything resembling a retraction or an apology. Stewart furiously denounces Fox “News” for their hypocritical non-apology for their #Benghazi BS, and reminds us that — unlike the so-called “stand down order” — systemic racism “actually exists.” “They demand accountability for anger and divisiveness whilst holding themselves entirely unaccountable for their anger and divisiveness. For two years, they used Benghazi as shorthand, as a symbol for the whole concept of a corrupt, lying, tyrannical — possibly murderous — Obama White House. Kind of how other people used ‘Hands Up Don’t Shoot’ as a symbol for systemic racism. There’s really only one difference between the two phenomena: systemic racism actually exists.” Although Stewart didn’t touch on this, it’s worth mentioning that not all conservatives agree with the folks on Fox “News.” Conservative Red State blogger Erick Erickson read the DOJ reports with every intent of discrediting their concerns about racism in policing and their recommended changes. But after reading the entire thing, Erickson was appalled, and declared that “no conservative on earth” should feel okay with what was going on in Ferguson. Even if you read only the parts of the Ferguson DOJ report that come directly from the files of the FPD (which is to say, files that would be most favorable to the Department), the report paints an incredibly damning picture of the Ferguson Police Department. No conservative on earth should feel comfortable with the way the Ferguson PD has been operating for years, even according to their own documents. Whoa. As Yosemite Sam would say, “them’s fighting words.”
