Very minor "nit pick".

When you click on Mail and go to the final recommended post (to see who recommended what), the star next to Mail still shows. If it's the last recommended post and you've clicked the mail link to see who recommended which post, the star should disappear. Otherwise, with the star still showing, I'll go to click Mail again and there won't be any links.

Lowest of priorities, to say the least....and maybe I'm the only one who gets fooled by the star still being "lit"

The only events that will create an audio notification now are messages directed specifically to you, either personal or public.
That does NOT appear to be the case.
