Published: March 12, 2015

On March 1, snow cover in the Lower 48 states was at 63.4 percent, according to the National Operational Hydrologic Remote Sensing Center (NOHRSC) analysis. Snow was on the ground in 49 of the 50 states that day.

Since then, snow cover across the country has decreased in a huge way as the animation above illustrates. The NOHRSC analysis on March 12 showed that 14.1 percent of the Lower 48 states was covered by snow. This is the lowest snow cover percentage since Nov. 10.
