>>I have some experience with Emerald Research, the company that recommended Iomega at 45 last year,<<

Emerald had been recommending Iomega since 1995 when they discovered it. SLao H&Q and JPM had buys on Iomega near the timne of the secondary when the stock was in above 35 range.

In any case, I believe the Sony HiFD drive will be delayed well beyond Q1. They have only been working on the drive less than a year and are having to use the latest tech to try to get a beachhead in the high cap removable market; for example, the 200 meg density they are jumping right to that density, also PRML which has not been used previously on floppy media.

As far as I know the backward compatability was not enabled in the Sony drive that was shown at Comdex. When they do try to make it backward compatible, I believe they will have problems with turbulence affecting the flying of the heads. Because of the way the large dual gap heads have to load, there is a large opening over the head area. This is as opposed to the zip media where the heads fly in a semi protected environment.

We shall see. I've been wrong before.
