That's the answer, if it works and stays off ... much better than 'cookies' that expire

Couldn't the other irritating new developments be managed the same way? ... i am never going to want SI making noises at me, on any machine, on any browser, anywhere - that's a job for youtube, where you get to choose the tune, the musicians and - most importantly - the timing

Dmitry says he fixed the cookie for normal SI subjectmarks page, extended it to three months, but that hasn't so far translated into a fix for me ... i've been into 'internet options' and lowered the privacy and security settings considerably, set 'siliconinvestor.com' domain up as 'allowed site' under the advanced options, and still it's not half an hour later when whack, whole faceful of cartoonish stuff and subjects without messages at top of page ... and the little speaker icon turns itself back on with about the same timing, now ... jeez

If cookies were the only way to manage a thing like that [don't know, not particularly tech-savvy here], then the logical thing would be to have the default settings to the non-irritating versions - the normal 'classic' version of subjectmarks, and a completely noise-free site ... those who want the 'logos' and the sounds can deal with the cookies, since they'll be in the minority there will be overall less unnecessary work required, less aggravation net-net at the end of the day

Thank you.

Also was attempting to read several threads on my iPhone and kept being hijacked by a run away advert.

Made it impossible to use the site and frustrated the heck out of me.

Thanks you Ron, most appreciated.

But this should also serve to remind you to do proper user testing before implementing a change. I used to work in software development and believe me, you can never anticipate the response to or how people use a new feature without it.
