My house is quiet all day long, the way I like it, then I started to hear that strange sound at odd times during the day. Could not find it was the new message notification for about a week. Thankfully, I always shut off my sound pod for bed. The first time I used SI's Computer Learning thread, it was because my modem would kick on in the middle of the night because I didn't want to turn the machine off due to the then current rumor that starting and stopping a hard drive wore it out faster. Remember that sound? boing - screeeeeech, screeeech, ping. Loud too. Someone on the thread made some suggestion. It worked and I told him it improved my quality of life!
