>My doubts are about the direction of the whole computer sector. CPQ stock can't grow alone. ...Lately, I started thinking that the computer sector is going nowhere for awhile until ..... we switched to digital TV, ASDL or cable modems replace existing modems,<

This is all going on right now and we will not have to wait until 2000. Businesses like ATHM are offering blazing internet speed for $30 - $40/month.

Also, DELL gives a great run down of the level of saturation in USA and there is plenty yet to be sold to. Europe is just opening up, in their eyes, and a great market for expansion (CPQ is way ahead of DELL there).

In general, most of the world market has not even been approached yet and box prices are going down so the market can be made. I think there is lots of strong growth ahead. I note Merrill Lynch says they think CPQ will make 100 in a year's time.

boris, the split vote that could have blocked it was dec 12th.
the rapid move to yr 2000 problems have Info tech moving to retool all their pc's. It's not that older pc's all have a y2k prob. but they are moving to re-engineered relational databases and systems in all sectors. Some of these re-eng solutions are net pcs.
buying will not stop.
15% growth for 1998 is a massive amt of pcs for the top 4.

we just need 1 q reports to rocket pc sector

asdl will have nothing to do with what businesses have to do and retooling pcs. we'll buy for other reasons and asdl will happen when it happens.
the pc prices are dropping fast on home front so retail will do well too.

go read the nopvember and december posts on cpq thread...
same thing..the bears and those who now nothing posting that we are tanking in 1998 and me saying we aren't tanking and outlining reasons.....

who course those who said we were tanking said " we are tanking becasue we are tanking"
