You found the words I was looking for. The belief that everybody (or nearly everybody) has to be bullish for the bear market to start is WRONG. In fact, there can be and often is a fair amount of bearish sentiment, but the situation is murky and to a large number of people it is not clear what is going on. Not knowing what to do, they stay in. Others, beleiving this is just another dip like the last one, buy from those who are bailing or selling short.
