The US can't afford to lose the SJ Valley because of all the food it produces

The rest of America could get by just fine w/o California grapes or almonds. Californians are so myopic. They don't know there are farms all over the country. Wipe out CA produce and the farmers of America will gear up and replace it in a year.

11% of the agricultural output in this country is produced in CA.

There is not enough water for even the least water demanding crops........and trust, this nation is far more dependent on tomatoes than almonds.

I can't remember ever buying almonds. Tomatoes grow anywhere.

How many tomatoes do you think get picked in Ohio in May or June? How many oranges grow in OK? How many states produce two crops of the same vegetable per year......broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, etc? How many almonds and pistachios grow in KS? How many kiwis grow in TX? Who grows the majority of asparagus in this country? What other state produces raisins?

You have no idea how productive the SJV is and how dependent the country is on that production.
