Meathead,

Yes! They have to test it first and they are used to a build to forecast model in manufacturing. This has to change to a true build to order model.

The have to cut out the two layers of distribution to eliminate two layers of cost and change their manufacturing.

They will be able to pass off the stuffed channel this time. The disenfranchised retailers will have to eat the inventory. But they have to have their direct model fully operational in 6 months after January.

The danger to the success of their plan is not DELL but rather HWP, IBM, Packard Bell and others who may exploit the opportunity to seize market share from CPQ by co-opting the channel and the retailers who are beginning to realize their days are numbered.

Regards,

Jim Kelley
