Captian, WCOM (like LU) can buy Ascend _equipment_ more cheaply than ASND _stock_. If they bought ASND, which I think is possible but unlikely given their acquisitive nature, they would be stuck using ASND equipment to the exclusion of competing equipment made by CSCO and COMS. I cannot see what WCOM could possibly want in buying out ASND. Their acquisitions are directed toward the POPs and PSTNs. LU isn't going to buy ASND. They will keep buying ASND gear while growing the little plum they picked last year. P.F.
