Why Is Carl Icahn Doubling Down on These 3 Struggling Stocks?
March regulatory filings revealed that Icahn had upped his positions in Chesapeake Energy (CHK - Get Report) , Voltari Corp. (VLTC) and Federal-Mogul Holdings(FDML
Re: Voltari Corporation (VLTC)
VOLTARI CORPORATION (VLTCP) - This is the preferred that Icahn owns $42 million

How Carl Icahn Sent Voltari Stock Up Nearly 500% in April (VLTC)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It looks like Icahn's strategy was to leverage his position on VLTC buying the preferred as it allows one to convert into common shares . . .

Voltari Corporation Preferred Series J 13%
Ticker Symbol: VLTCP CUSIP: Unknown* Exchange: OTOTC

...each outstanding share of preferred stock of Motricity became the right to receive one share of preferred stock of Voltari, each outstanding warrant to purchase shares of Motricity Common Stock became the right to receive a warrant to purchase an equivalent number of shares of Voltari Common Stock, and each option to purchase shares of Motricity Common Stock was assumed by Voltari and became exercisable for an equivalent number of shares of Voltari Common Stock.

New recovery highs in our SFY 6/2017 7.125% Bonds. Today I noticed several trades in the $0.70/100 & $0.71/100 area. Now we need these to get back above $0.80. You can see the trade history from this link but best not to watch too often. My avg price is $0.52/100 and I already collected one semi-annual dividend payment.

I have been finding value in the fertilizer stocks. Many are at/near multi year lows. IPI, POT, SQM, CF and YARIY are some of the ones that look good. Started a position in POT.

I also think this Australian NG/Oil company; Woodside Petroleum Ltd. (WOPEY) is quite cheap at 9PE. I have posted some observations on the 50%Gains thread. Started a small position at $26.65/share (8.7% div too) and have orders to add more below $26.00/share. The hidden value are their Asian LNG delivery contracts (10 year terms) and their NG offshore fields they have developed that tie into a turnkey processing and LNG export facility. Their Browse FLNG project (the are the operator) was the deal that made me go ahead w/ my recent buy. I had been eyeing this company for more than a year and at 2x the current price. If they keep the dividend it s/d be a good buy and hold.
